Los Angeles -- The story of Sunchild begins with Brooke Bartelt, a California teacher who couldn't conceive of going a day without wearing sandals. Her passion for fashionable, funky footwear led her to begin making unique, hand-made sandals decorated with beautiful vintage trim, flowers, and beads for herself and her friends.

These sandals were soon catching people's attention, whose first question, "Aren't your toes freezing, wearing those shoes in December?" was invariably followed by, "Where can I buy a pair of those? They're so fun!"

And so by popular demand, Sunchild was born, a company devoted to taking the sandal and elevating its status to fashionable footwear. The styles, inspired by the designer's travels through India as well as her love for daisies, are all hand-made by Brooke and several Los Angeles artisans.
